Raven Sports Network to begin broadcasting for NE-10 Conference

By Andrew Hoenig ’19

Starting this Wednesday, the Raven Sports Network (RSN) will broadcast women’s basketball in compliance with new rules from the NE-10 conference, stating that all home games have to be properly covered in regards to both audio and video streaming services.

The women’s team opened up at home against Saint Anselm and have already started the season off 0-2, with tight losses to Goldey-Beacom and USciences. Men’s basketball will also be broadcasted, starting on their first home game against Bentley on November 28th.

With this new development, senior and RSN director, Shannon Slater, touched on the new opportunity her and her team are being provided as Franklin Pierce looks to build it’s sports media program on campus.

“We’re filling positions for both the men’s and women’s broadcasts and those positions could be cameras, broadcasters, production, and technical specialists,” said Slater.

The opportunities have been freely offered to anyone in the Sports Media major and some students who are Communication majors as well. Student teams have been built to cover both the men’s and women’s basketball games respectively, including those who will be available to broadcast over winter break.

“We have had great support, cooperation, and patience so far as we already had our first broadcast and rehearsal with the women’s team taking on Vermont Tech in a scrimmage on October 29,” Slater said.

This upcoming spring semester, in addition to basketball, lacrosse will be the next sport that RSN and the NE-10 will be tackling. RSN plans on expanding to more sports in 2019, including football, baseball, and soccer.

This will give the students more broadcasting experience to bring into the real working world. In addition, this new program will also benefit the Franklin Pierce sports teams as it will promote the athletes and the programs they play for.

“We have our teams in place for those first games so we’re excited to get this thing started and promote the Franklin Pierce brand,” said Slater.
