The day opened for our team with much excitement at the Democratic National Convention. Politics FitzU members joined the delegations of Maine, New Hampshire and Bernie Sanders home state Vermont for breakfast.

Guest speakers included Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, former Vermont Governor  Madeleine Kunin, and former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley. They brought the crowd of delegates to their feet cheering and clapping with talks of unity and attacks aimed at Donald Trump.

Alex Powell ’17 was able to interview former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley after the breakfast. This interview can be seen on Politics FitzU Facebook page.

Once Powell concluded his interview, Matt Scoville ’18, Alex Malm ’17, Patt Delaney ’17, and Kelsey Parker ’20 went to interview Kenneth T. Walsh. Walsh is the former President of the White House Correspondence Association under the former Clinton Administration and personal friends with Marlin Fitzwater. After the interview this group of Politics FitzU members headed to downtown Philly and walked around interviewed many different people.

Dr. Nevious, Amanda Holland ’18, and Margaret Bell ’18 went inside the convention to film Barack Obama, and Joe Biden. Inside the convention, Holland and Bell conducted interviews with many different delegates. They also met with Yanick Rice Lamb, the Chair of Howard University, to discuss the RNC and the DNC.

Later tonight Bell plans to be inside the arena to see Jesse Jackson, Joe Biden, and President Obama speak.
