Sydney

Going to Sydney this past weekend after going to the raimforest was quite a big change. Not only did we go from one extreme to another, but Sydney is a huge place that can’t be seen in one weekend.

Thursday we didn’t arrive until late but we went out in Darling Harbour and experienced some of the nightlife of Sydney. This was very fun and very different from where we go in Surfers Paradise. Also, our hostel Thursday night was very affordable but lacked quality big time.

Friday was a beautiful day weather wise and we got to see more of Darling Harbour and discovered all the little shops and cafes of the rocks. We also got to see Sydney Opera House and climbed a portion of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. These two pieces of architecture are spectacular in size and are also beautiful to see up close and personal. We managed to find a brand new hostel accomodation on Friday which only cost us a few dollars more and we got our own bathroom.

Saturday we attended the Royal Randwick Autumn Carnival, which was an all day event featuring horse racing. One thing I learned was that you most definitely need to dress fancy for these events and also that women need some sort of ridiculous hat or head piece in order to fit in. It was a great day and the horses were so beautiful. I also learned that placing bets on horses may be fun but it doesn’t really pay big unless you have big bucks to bet with.

Sunday our group explored the Harbour a little more and went to the Maritime Museum to see their Mythical Creatures exhibit. Surprisingly the entry was free into the museum and the exhibits weren’t entirely horrible. We also walked through the Botanical Gardens, which was peaceful and relaxing.

The weekend was great, but I still feel like I need more time in Sydney, maybe in the future.

My Mom and Aunt will be visiting for two whole weeks. I am super excited and it is just in time, I was starting to get homesick.

Ta for now!
Jocelyn
